REVERSE: MoMu Celebrates the Creative Journey of Young Fashion Designers

With REVERSE, MoMu and artist Alex Akuete offer an inspiring platform for a new generation of young designers to discover their passion for fashion and sustainability. Twenty selected young people will have the opportunity to create a completely new look using upcycled deadstock fabrics, under the guidance of Akuete and experienced fashion professionals. This project is not only about design, but also about awareness: how can we approach fashion more sustainably while making a positive impact?
Workshop week
During an intensive creative week in March 2025 at DE SINGEL, participants were given the space to explore their ideas and translate them into unique designs. They experimented with materials, refined their technical skills, and developed their own style. In addition to the creative process, they engaged with fashion professionals and experts who shared their insights and experiences.
Coaching session
On 6 April 2025, Wave Together organized a series of talks at Arenberg with experienced stylists, designers, and fashion professionals. The young participants had the chance to ask questions, receive feedback, and reflect on their future in the fashion world. More than a classic panel discussion, this was an interactive moment, where young makers engaged directly with established figures in the industry. By sharing personal stories and professional challenges, they were encouraged to chart their own path forward.
Fashion show and talk
The project culminated in a multidisciplinary fashion show at MoMu on 18 April 2025, where fashion, performance, and art came together. This was no traditional catwalk, but an immersive experience where poetry, singing, and dance transitioned into the collections of the young designers – directed by Alex Akuete.
The audience was invited to not just watch fashion, but to experience it. After the show, the designs were exhibited, allowing visitors to admire the creations up close.
On 19 April 2025, a panel talk followed, where the young designers shared their experiences and ambitions. The closing afterparty, featuring a DJ set by Ampomah Secure, brought a festive atmosphere.
Exhibitions
REVERSE doesn’t end at MoMu. The creations continue to live on in other locations around the city:
From 23 April 2025, the silhouettes of the young designers will be displayed in the second-hand store Think Twice.
From 27 April 2025, photographs of the fashion creations will be on display at Arenberg. RSVP to the opening here
This way the designs find their way to a new audience, and fashion becomes visible in public spaces – as a powerful medium for expression, change, and sustainability.
REVERSE is an initiative by MoMu in collaboration with DE SINGEL, Arenberg, and Fameus, supported by Fonds voor Nieuwe Makers. With this project, MoMu, under the artistic direction of Alex Akuete, focuses on the future of fashion and gives a voice to the new generation of designers.

Fashion tells a story with fabric. Layers, soft colors, and graceful forms that highlight the female body. A dress is more than clothing; it’s a story of romance and timeless beauty.
