A sampler is more than just a piece of fabric decorated with stitches and patterns, it is a tangible piece of history and an expression of creativity and skill. During this two-day workshop, you will explore the rich tradition of samplers and get to work yourself with needle and thread. You will develop skills and explore new techniques within this wonderful craft.

During the first day you will learn about basic embroidery stitches. Curious about variations on these basic stitches? You will also learn more about different types of thread, combining stitches for interesting textures and adding pearls. The second day is devoted to ajour embroidery, making corded holes and the open hem stitch.

Kenny Damian is a textile restorer and freelance embroiderer. She has studied various hand embroidery techniques such as aari embroidery, Kutch (India) embroidery, gold and bead embroidery and needlepoint lace. She has learned these techniques and skills directly from embroiderers and through classes at home and abroad. She applies the techniques to herself or in combination with others and does so for both contemporary and historical designs.

Because I find it important not only to preserve the objects, but also not to lose the knowledge and the different techniques in which they were made, I started to learn different embroidery techniques.
