The use and experience of make-up is different for everyone. MoMu challenges young people with a passion for make-up to develop and share their most creative looks. Alter Ensor offers them a platform to showcase their most imaginative side and collaborate with make-up professionals. The museum is, therefore, inviting them to create videos in which they share their most creative looks and talk about what make-up means to them. Ten young people will be selected for the Alter Ensor project. The resulting diverse looks and underlying stories create a fascinating mix of visions, skills and experiences which will be highlighted in the project.

How to participate?

  • You are between the ages of 16 and 25.
  • Make a video of the creation process and two self-portraits of your most original look. In a separate video, tell us what make-up means to you. We want to get to know you: your personal story is more important than a professional edit.
  • Register by 17 June 2024 using the following form.
  • Submit two videos and two self-portraits by 30 June 2024. Both videos should be between 3 and 5 minutes.
  • The ten selected young people will be notified by 19 July 2024.

Ten selected young people:

  • Will create a new and personalised make-up design during a workshop at DE SINGEL with make-up artist Naomi Waku and a professional photo and videographer on 19 August 2024.
  • Will present their final creation during an event in the MoMu hall on 5 October 2024, and at Arenberg on 13 October 2024.
  • Will guide visitors through the exhibition Masquerade, Make-up and Ensor during the opening weekend on 28 and 29 September 2024.

Alter Ensor at DE SINGEL

On 19 August, the young talents will gather at DE SINGEL to work with Naomi Waku to create a new make-up design inspired by the work of James Ensor, followed by a professional photoshoot.

Alter Ensor at Arenberg

After the screening event at MoMu on 5 October, Alter Ensor will hold halt at Arenberg, where you can discover the photos and videos of the young make-up talents' final creations from 13 October to 24 November.
