This masterclass draws inspiration from a bomber jacket with appliqué embroidery from Dries Van Noten's Autumn-Winter 2021-22 collection in MoMu's collection presentation.
Based on the constellation "fish," we will learn to work with jaseron and cantilles, which are usually used in gold embroidery, in combination with pearls and sequins. The embroidery can be made into a brooch afterwards or you can appliqué it on a garment. You choose to make one fish, or a combination of two (separate) fish.
Kenny Damian is a textile restorer and freelance embroiderer. She has studied various hand embroidery techniques such as aari embroidery, Kutch (India) embroidery, gold and bead embroidery and needlepoint lace. She has learned these techniques and skills directly from embroiderers and through classes at home and abroad. She applies the techniques to herself or in combination with others and does so for both contemporary and historical designs.
Because I find it important not only to preserve the objects, but also not to lose the knowledge and the different techniques in which they were made, I started to learn different embroidery techniques.
The lunch break is scheduled between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM. There are various options for lunch in the local vicinity, including MoMu Café.
